Maroubra Project

A quiet study in warmth, texture and restraint, the Maroubra Project transforms a Sydney townhouse into a home that feels both grounded and effortless. The brief was to create a sense of cohesion across the kitchen, bathrooms, entry and stair, bringing together a palette of warm oak, natural stone, tonal tiles and aged bronze. Rather than relying on contrast, the design explores subtle shifts in tone, texture and form – allowing each material to speak softly alongside the next. Curved details introduce a gentle rhythm, while considered joinery and tactile finishes give the spaces a sense of permanence. Moments of colour appear sparingly, adding depth and personality without disturbing the calm of the overall scheme. Natural, understated and quietly expressive, the finished home is an exercise in intentional restraint – where simplicity is not an absence of detail, but a celebration of it.
